Public records have cleared on the sale by actor Tobey Maguire of his 4,704-square-foot, Mediterranean-style house in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills, and they show that Maguire sold the house for $10,800,000, and not the $11,500,000 figure that was reported in June by the Los Angeles Times.
In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can reveal that Los Angeles County records show that Maguire sold the three-bedroom house at 9000 Thrasher Avenue for $10.8 million on Feb. 27 to a St. Louis-based company called Thrasher Properties LLC whose buyer we have been unable to identify, with the sale closing on May 25. On June 17, the Los Angeles Times’ Ruth Ryon broke the story of Maguire selling the house but incorrectly reported that the sale price was $11.5 million (she also incorrectly reported that Maguire had purchased the house in 2002 for $3.7 million, when he actually paid $3.5 million for it).
We followed the next day with our own report on Tobey’s sale (we also had written back on May 2 about Tobey having told Howard Stern that he was getting ready to move to something more family-friendly).
Built in 1962, Maguire’s former house was rebuilt in 1990 and then redone again by Waldo Fernandez after Maguire purchased it for $3.5 million in 2002, according to public records and the Times. Features in the house include a gym, city views, a spa, an infinity pool, a courtyard entry, a chef’s kitchen and maid’s quarters, the Times reported. The house also is next door to actress Megan Mullally’s 3,803-square-foot house.
It remains unclear where Maguire and his fiancée will move next. It also was reported in 2005 that Maguire had paid $1.5 million for a two-bedroom apartment in the Panorama Towers development in Las Vegas, although we have not yet found evidence of that purchase in Clark County public records in Nevada.
