In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report on the listing of the seven-bedroom house at 345 St. Pierre Road in Bel-Air. The house came on the market on Thursday.
Built in 1929, the Bel-Air house has 12 baths, a two-story formal entry, a formal dining room, a media room, a den, a bar, and a breakfast area, according to public records and listing information. Outdoor features on the 0.66-acre (28,815-square-foot) property include a pool, a sun deck, and several other buildings on the property (a projection/entertaining building, an art studio, and a gym with two full baths), according to public records and listing information. Total square footage of all buildings on the property measures around 13,000, according to listing information.
During a very public trial in early 1943, Flynn famously beat the charges that he had raped two underage girls during a party at this house in November 1942, resulting in the coining of the phrase "In like Flynn." The house was occupied at that time by actor Bruce Cabot. The house reportedly was built for silent-movie star Colleen Moore.
The property also is available for rent for $45,000 a month.
The current owner (a non-celebrity) has owned the property since 1979, according to public records. Despite many references to such on the Internet, we see no proof that actress Helen Hunt has ever owned or lived on this property. Hunt absolutely did own a separate property that was part of Flynn's estate, but that's in the Hollywood Hills. Hunt sold that property to rocker Justin Timberlake in 2002 -- a transaction that was written about twice in the Los Angeles Times that year because of former Times celebrity real estate columnist Ruth Ryon's "two-halves" style of reporting. See more about that transaction and several other high-profile, "two-halves" transactions.
