Less than two years after purchasing a five-bedroom, Mediterranean-style villa just above Los Angeles' Sunset Strip, Russell Simmons and his estranged wife Kimora Lee Simmons have listed it for $5,800,000.

Hats off to the Real Estalker for breaking the story this morning about the Simmons' house, which was built in 1988 and which they purchased in August 2005 through their 1501 N Doheny Drive Trust for $5,250,000, according to public records.

Back in February, we gave a rundown on the Simmons' expansive real-estate portfolio, where activity of late has included them listing their 10-bedroom, 35,000-square-foot mansion on 4 acres in Saddle River, N.J., and leasing out their 7,000-square-foot triplex apartment in lower Manhattan. The soon-to-be-single Russell Simmons also has been reported to be negotiating to buy a place in Manhattan's West Village, according to news accounts.

Above the Sunset Strip, the timing of the Simmons' purchase of the Mediterranean-style house at 1501 N. Doheny Drive in Los Angeles back in August 2005 was interesting indeed. Russell Simmons had filed for divorce in March 2006, saying that they had been apart for some time before, suggesting that the couple barely had had a chance to ever occupy the Sunset Strip house together, if at all.

Features in the Sunset Strip house include four baths, high ceilings, a pool area for entertaining and a motor court. When the couple purchased the house back in 2005, the Los Angeles Times' Ruth Ryon reported that 'the house has a rare amenity for its bustling locale, where parking is at a premium: a motor court with room for five cars, in addition to a two-car garage.' Ryon also noted that the house has stone floors, an outdoor kitchen, a fireplace, a pool, a 17,000-square-foot plus (actually 17,468-square-foot) lot that is 'considered large for the area' and 'city views from the master bedroom.'
