Singer Avril Lavigne has paid $9.5 million to purchase a 12,184-square-foot, Tuscan-style mansion in Los Angeles' Bel-Air community that rocker Travis Barker of Blink-182 owned from 2004 until late 2006 and that he used to film his now-concluded MTV reality series "Meet the Barkers," according to public records and the Los Angeles Times.

The Times' Ruth Ryon this morning reports on Lavigne's purchase of the three-story house, which was built in 2003 and which sits on close to an acre. However, she completely omits (or didn't realize) what for us easily is the most fascinating (and important) part of the story: that two rockers, Barker and Lavigne, owned the same house, just months apart.

Here's what we pieced together:

Last summer, Barker, who purchased the mansion at 2180 Stratford Circle in Bel-Air for $6.2 million in 2004 through his Cookie Trust, first listed the home for $8.5 million, as we noted on March 5. Barker, who moved to Calabasas, later reduced the mansion's asking price to $8 million, and late last year he found a buyer in prominent L.A. attorney Walter J. Lack, who paid exactly its asking price.

However, just two months after lawyer Lack purchased the Stratford Circle mansion, he wound up quietly unloading it to Lavigne's Stratford Trust for $9.5 million, according to public records and the Times. That's a pretty impressive "flip" on Lack's part, we'd say.

Two final points:

--Lavigne still needs to sell her five-bedroom, 6,864-square-foot mansion at 3331 Clerendon Road in the Mulholland Estates neighborhood above Beverly Hills, which she purchased in 2004 through her 4173546 Canada company for $4,550,000 and which she transferred to her Clerendon Trust in February. That house had been listed for $6.9 million and later was reduced to $6.2 million. Clearly now, we know why. Avril is a "motivated" seller, as they say in the business, given that she's already purchased new digs in Bel-Air. Check out the Clerendon Road house's listing sheet here and read our coverage (from last month) of her listing here and the Real Estalker's coverage of her listing here.
