Crooner Paul Anka is selling his 5,717-square-foot mansion in the gated Mulholland Estates area just off of Mulholland Drive north of Beverly Hills, Calif. for $5,995,000, according to listing information.
Anka, 65, is selling the three-bedroom, Mediterranean-style house at 3367 Clerendon Road, which he has owned since buying it in January 2005 for $3.5 million. Check out its listing sheet here for details. The singer redid the house’s interior, which has a grand entry, “high ceilings with the finest lighting,” oak floors with ebony stain, a fireplace in the living room, state-of-the-art audio (naturally) and video throughout the property, and a family room with a wet bar and customized mahogany bookcases and built-ins, according to listing information.
Anka has long been a resident of the hilly areas north of Beverly Hills, as well as a denizen of Las Vegas. A previous home of his in Vegas was torn down in 2003, according to the Los Angeles Times, as part of a project that created the entrance and parking lot of the MGM Grand Hotel. And in 2004, he sold his 7,688-square-foot, longtime Beverly Hills home, at 12078 Summit Circle, for its $5.9 million asking price to producer and philanthropist Kate Edelman Johnson, according to public records. Built in 1987, Anka’s previous Beverly Hills house happens to be on the same block as—and about five doors down from—the house at 12094 Summit that Britney Spears recently has been reported to have bought.
The Mulholland Estates neighborhood that Anka now is vacating, on Clerendon Road, is one well-known to celebrities. Singer Avril Lavigne and her husband purchased the 6,864-square-foothouse at 3331 Clerendon in July 2004 for $4.55 million, while former Beach Boy Brian Wilson in 1999 paid $3.5 million for the 9,353-square-foot house at 3320 Clerendon. TV Judge Greg Mathis quietly paid $4.75 million in August 2005 to buy the 7,755-square-foot house at 3303 Clerendon, while actress Loni Anderson until recently was trying to sell her 6,911-square-foot house at 3355 Clerendon (the listing recently expired). Also nearby is actor Tom Arnold’s onetime 7,646-square-foot mansion at 14046 Aubrey Road, which he bought from singer and future “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul’s Happy Feet Trust for $2.3 million in 1998. And Christina Aguilera’s Keena One Trust owned the 7,492-square-foot house at 13968 Aubrey from 2000 to 2002, while basketballer Shaquille O’Neal’s Chexy Trust owned the 9,752-square-foot house across the street from Arnold’s, at 14043 Aubrey, until selling it in late 2004 for $6.4 million.
So where is Anka off to? He has owned some property in Las Vegas, where he paid $1 million in 2004 for a sixth-floor unit in the Park Tower Hughes Center but then turned around and flipped that same unit in late 2004 for $1.15 million. He also owns a small condo in Vegas’ Stone Ridge Condominiums development, which he bought that same year for $215,000, according to public records. However, Anka’s next principal residence remains unclear. We will keep you posted.
