Several more chapters have been written in Paris Hilton's housing odyssey, with Us magazine having reported an exclusive this past week that the talentless heiress is buying a 7,493-square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills' Mulholland Estates neighborhood that has been on the market for $6,250,000.

However, as of Saturday, the house, at 3340 Clerendon Road, remains listed in Los Angeles' multiple listing service, leaving us confused. Typically, once a deal is reached, a listing is removed fairly quickly from the MLS. As of Saturday morning, the listing was described as 'looking for backup,' leaving us to wonder if Us perhaps jumped the gun with its report and that no deal has been finalized. We certainly wouldn't doubt that Hilton has looked at the house, and it unquestionably would fit her needs--given that it's behind gates in Mulholland Estates.

Built in 1991, the house has five bedrooms and five and a half baths and sits on a 0.76-acre parcel, according to public records. Other features include a two-story entry, an office with built-ins, a formal dining room with a butler's pantry and wine closet, a gourmet kitchen with a large center island, top-of-the-line appliances and a breakfast room, a family room with a wet bar and a fireplace, a gym, a large bonus room with a fireplace, and a master suite with a fireplace, a private balcony, city views, a wet bar and a master bath, according to listing information. Outside are a pool, a spa, a barbecue and a large motor court, according to listing information.

It's still unclear to us whether Hilton will buy this property or whether this will wind up as an untrue rumor, as was the case with chatter a few weeks back about rumors that Britney Spears would buy actor Ray Liotta's onetime home in Los Angeles' Pacific Palisades area.

Mulholland Estates is of course a well-known celebrity haven, and even with some mass defections of late (actor Tom Arnold recently sold his house at 14046 Aubrey Road for $7.4 million, crooner Paul Anka recently sold his house at 3367 Clerendon Road for $5.8 million, actress Loni Anderson recently sold her house at 3355 Clerendon Road for $5.7 million,
singer Avril Lavigne reportedly has sold her house at 3331 Clerendon Road (although public records do not yet bear that out), and singer Brian Wilson has listed his house at 3320 Clerendon Road), the gated neighborhood remains a draw for celebs. Current residents include TV judge Greg Mathis, who since 2005 has owned the 7,755-square-foot house at 3303 Clerendon Road, and crooner Tom Jones, who owns the house at 13976 Aubrey Road. Former residents have included Shaquille O'Neal, who sold the house at 14043 Aubrey Road in 2004, and singer Christina Aguilera, whose Keena One Trust owned the house at 13968 Aubrey Road from 2002 to 2002.

Obviously, public records--which are the ultimate arbiter of whether a house is purchased--don't yet reflect whether Hilton or any trust of hers has purchased the Clerendon Road Trust. We'll keep you posted on whether Hilton winds up buying the house or not.

As for Hilton's current house at 1467 N. Kings Road in Los Angeles' Hollywood Hills, which she listed some weeks back for $4,250,000, rumors out there again have been that she's sold the house. However, similarly, that house remains listed in Los Angeles' multiple listing service (again, with the 'looking for backup' status as of Saturday morning, suggesting that while a deal may be close, no deal may have been finalized just yet). We'll keep you posted as Paris' always-dynamic housing situation evolves.
