Continuing still with our holiday weekend-long effort to catch up on long-neglected items, we wanted to give our input on the fast-becoming-ancient news that Gayle King, best known as being Oprah Winfrey's best friend, has placed on the market a six-bedroom, 10,433-square-foot house in Greenwich, Conn. for $7,475,000.  Note that we're being very cautious about not identifying the house as belonging specifically to King. That's because we don't actually believe that King is the legal owner of the house. Public records show that the Colonial-style house, at 37 Richmond Hill Road in Greenwich, is owned by a Chicago-based LLC company called Overground Railroad LLC. That same LLC owns scads of other properties -- all of which are commonly known as belonging to Winfrey -- including houses in Tennessee, Georgia, suburban Chicago and Merrillville, Indiana, and a lakefront condominium unit in Milwaukee, Wis. We previously had made this observation in our post on March 24, and our friends over at the Real Estalker also suggested the same possibility when they broke the story on June 21 of the listing of the Richmond Hill Road house.  Features in the house, which was bought new by Winfrey and/or King in 2000 for $3,600,000, include seven full baths, three partial baths, an 18-foot reception hall, a step-down living room with a fireplace, a solarium, a library with a fireplace, a tray-ceilinged dining room, an eat-in kitchen, a window-lined breakfast room and a family room with a stone fireplace, according to public records and listing information. Other features include a master suite with a sitting room, a dressing room and a fireplace, a third-floor family room with a bar and a bath, a three-car garage, and a 'garden level' (let's call it a 'basement' instead, since that's what it is!) with a media room/home theater with an entertaining area, according to listing information. Outside on the 4.02-acre property are a rear terrace and a free form pool, according to public records and listing information. It's no secret where Gayle is off to. As we noted on March 24, Gayle now is an empty-nester, and she now lives in a $7,100,000 penthouse condominium unit in the 36-story Place 57 building at 207 E. 57th Street in Manhattan. Records show that the Sophie's Penthouse LLC company (owned either by King, Winfrey, or both of them) closed on the deal on March 10.
