Kirk Hammett, the lead guitarist of Metallica, has reduced the price of his Georgian mansion in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood from $12.5 million to $10.5 million.
A San Francisco native, Hammett, 44, paid $2,560,000 for the house either in 1993 or 2000, depending on which public-records database one consults. The mansion’s size is in question as well, although no one doubts its scale; listing information states that it measures 9,519 square feet, while public records put the mansion’s size at 8,400 square feet.
In either case, the mansion has nine bedrooms, seven full baths, three half baths, rich woodwork, high ceilings, a library, a billiard/family room with a bar, a two-car garage and a motor court, according to listing information.
We should give credit where credit is due; while the Friday Wall Street Journal reported on Hammett’s price cut, our friends over at Curbed broke the story of Hammett’s listing back in April 2006, followed by the San Francisco Business Times.
