TV entertainer and businessman Merv Griffin is asking $6.2 million for his country retreat and vineyard in Carmel Valley, Calif., which is about 125 miles south of San Francisco
Griffin, 81, told the Wall Street Journal last fall that he decided to sell the 57-acre property (public records actually reveal its size to be 58.71 acres, but who are we to quibble) because he rarely visits it. The mountaintop estate contains six buildings that house a total of 11 bedrooms, 10 full baths, three half baths, a pool, an outdoor dance floor, an orchard and a vineyard, according to listing information. Griffin also said he purchased the land in the 1970s (although public records suggest that he actually bought the larger of the two tracts that make up the estate in 1986, and that he acquired the second parcel in 1988 for just $200,000) and that the approximately one-acre Sauvignon Blanc vineyard produces about 150 cases of wine each year, much of which Griffin donates to charity auctions.

Griffin's main residence is a ranch in La Quinta, Calif. Also, we can exclusively report that Griffin quietly sold a 3,297-square-foot town house at 2314 Century Hl in Los Angeles' Century City area in June 2006 for exactly $2 million, according to public records. (Griffin had purchased that town house in 2003 for $1,350,000, according to public records.)
