Max Weinberg, best known as the drummer on Conan O’Brien’s late-night chatfest, has been active on the real-estate front in the Los Angeles area, with recent deals involving trying to sell or rent one property that he owns in the Brentwood area, and a second deal involving selling a beachfront house of his in Santa Monica.
Weinberg, 55, is based in New Jersey but has been an L.A.-area homeowner since the summer of 2005, when he paid $5,823,550, according to public records, for the three-bedroom, 3,198-square-foot house at 703 Palisades Beach Road in Santa Monica.
Palisades Beach Road is actually the Pacific Coast Highway, and the Venetian-style beachfront villa that Weinberg bought was designed by architect John Byers and has terraces, arched colonnades, carved Italian stonework, imported mosaics and marble, an elegant, formal pool and spa and a guest house, according to a 2000 article in Los Angeles Magazine. Check out a listing sheet for the house, which had been listed for $5,995,000 at the time that Weinberg bought it.
Big Time Listings can exclusively report that on December 18, however, Weinberg and his wife Rebecca sold the Santa Monica house for an undisclosed price to a limited-liability corporation called 703 Palisades Beach Road LLC. A quick check of California Secretary of State records reveals only that the limited-liability company is based in L.A.’s Century City area, but doesn’t disclose whether Weinberg is one of the owners of that company. We would tend to guess not, particularly given that Weinberg’s home base is in New Jersey. And, when we get a sale price or more information on the new owner of the Palisades Beach property, we’ll post it here.
Also, as first reported by the Real Estalker blog today, Weinberg has listed a second house that he owns, in L.A.’s Brentwood area. Contrary to what that blog reported, however, Weinberg actually bought the house at 1345 Vista Moraga in July 2006, and not in early 2006. Weinberg’s purchase price for the house is undisclosed, but it had been listed for $7.25 million. Built in 1986, the 8,085-square-foot house at 1345 Vista Moraga sits on a 2.144-acre parcel and has been offered up for sale for $8.2 million.
The house also is available as a monthly rental, for $35,000 a month.
Features in Weinberg’s six-bedroom house, which is in the Moraga Estates area of Brentwood, include landscaped gardens, a motor court, six and a half baths, a four-car garage, soaring ceilings, two fireplaces, and a large sparkling pool with a waterfall, according to listing information.
Meanwhile, Weinberg has scaled back his East Coast property holdings, at least somewhat. He still owns his 30-plus-acre estate at 633 Cooper Road/633 McClees Road in the Atlantic Highlands and Middletown townships of eastern New Jersey. However, in 2005, Weinberg sold two condo units at 10 Bedford Street, #2 and #4 in Manhattan’s West Village neighborhood for $2,450,000. He had bought one unit in that building in 2003 for $1,500,000, and then bought a second unit in the building in March 2004 for $540,000, according to public records.
