Alexis Carson, the widow of talk-show legend Johnny Carson, recently sold the couple’s 4-acre oceanfront Malibu estate for between $38 million and $40 million to Jones Apparel Group founder Sidney Kimmel, as has been widely reported. She also, however, has more quietly sold a 17th-floor in-town unit in Los Angeles’ Westwood neighborhood for $3,995,000, and also last summer very quietly paid $14.5 million for a 13,623-square-foot house above Beverly Hills, according to public records.

In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report that Alexis Carson’s liquidation of Johnny’s real estate didn’t stop with the sale of the Malibu estate, and also included her high-end deal in Westwood. And now, she has started an entirely new life in a new area with her purchase of the mansion in the Beverly Ridge area of Beverly Hills.

First, however, it’s important to mention the $38 million sale of the estate in Malibu, at 6962 Wildlife Road. In February, Kimmel, 78, purchased the estate through his 6962 Wildlife Associates LLC company and through his 6950 Whitesands Associates LLC company as well for an undisclosed amount, according to public records. Before marrying Alexis Carson in 1987, Johnny had purchased the 7,083-square-foot house at 6962 Wildlife Road, on Point Dume, in late 1984 for around its $9.5 million asking price, the Los Angeles Times reported. By 1986, the talk-show host had amassed four separate properties, including addresses at 6915 and 6950 Whitesands Place.

On March 7, the New York Post’s Page Six column reported that Kimmel had paid $40 million for Carson’s Malibu estate. Later on in the month, Newsweek reported on the purchase as well. By March 25, however, the Times’ Ruth Ryon reported (http://www.latimes.com/classified/realestate/hotprop/la-re-hotprop25mar25,0,5906703.story?coll=la-class-realestate-hotprop) simply that Carson’s Malibu house had sold for $38 million, and that his widow, Alexis, “sold the house to a buyer described as a fan of Carson’s from the East Coast.” We can’t yet confirm either the $38 million or the $40 million figures through public records (although as soon as we get the exact amount, we’ll report it here), so we don’t know who is right. However, we can say that Ryon’s statement was baffling. Very few residential properties in the U.S. ever have sold for $38 million or more. So for Ryon to basically ignore the Post’s reportage of Kimmel’s name (either not knowing it or, more likely, deliberately not wanting to mention Kimmel’s name), which is a critical piece of information in such a sale, is a disservice to readers.

In 2003, Johnny and Alexis paid $2,975,000, according to public records, to purchase a three-bedroom, 3,277-square-foot unit in the Remington Condominiums high-rise at 10727 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles’ Westwood neighborhood, which was built in 2001. Late last year, however, Alexis Carson quietly sold that unit to a company called Mia Casa Capital Resources LLC for $3,995,000, according to public records. Unfortunately, no listing information is available online for that unit (nor for Johnny’s Malibu spread), so we can’t provide you with any interior photos.

Now, Alexis Carson’s new residence is a seven-bedroom Italian villa-style mansion at 15 Beverly Ridge Terrace, which she quietly purchased last June for $14.5 million, according to public records. Features in the 13,623-square-foot mansion, which was built in 2003 and which had been listed for $15 million, include 10 baths, ocean views, loggias, a pool and spa, according to listing information. If the Beverly Ridge area sounds familiar, that’s because a nearby, six-bedroom, 11,206-square-foot house across the street on 3.96 acres at 8 Beverly Ridge Terrace has had plenty of star power. NFL star Keyshawn Johnson built the house, then sold it in December 2004 for $10.5 million to onetime Paris Hilton paramour and shipping heir Paris Latsis’ Santa Monica Oceanview LLC company, according to public records. Almost immediately after buying it, Latsis turned around and listed it for $13.8 million, and eventually sold it in November 2005 for $12.25 million to a company called SPP Management, according to public records. Latsis now lives in a mansion at 9374 Beverly Crest Drive in Beverly Hills, which he purchased through his Santa Monica Oceanview LLC company in March 2006 for $9.2 million, according to public records.
