Actress Joan Collins has paid $2,700,000 for a condominium unit in the celebrity-intensive Sierra Towers building in West Hollywood, Calif. The Los Angeles Times’ Ruth Ryon broke the story yesterday of Collins’ condo unit purchase, which closed on October 30 and which was recorded on December 11. However, many of the details that Ryon provided about the unit don’t make sense to us, particularly given what public records tell us. To wit: --Ryon reported that the unit has “about 2,700 square feet” when public records plainly state that the unit measures 2,117 square feet --She wrote that the unit is on the building’s 27th floor, when it’s pretty clearly on the 25th floor (Unit 2501, to be exact) --Ryon reported that the unit has two bedrooms, when public records say it has three. This is the least suspicious of all of Ryon’s claims, since prior owners may well have made some changes to the unit over the years and, say, converted a bedroom to an office. The unit once was owned by actress Tawny Kitaen, who in 1995 had sold it for $555,500 to the couple who sold it to Collins, according to public records. Over the years, Kitaen has owned other units as well in Sierra Towers, which is at 9255 Doheny Drive in West Hollywood. As for Collins, she does not appear to have owned property in the Los Angeles area since late 1993, when she sold her house at 1196 Cabrillo Drive in Beverly Hills for $2,850,000.
