Hockey great Wayne Gretzky has paid $875,000 for a house in Westlake Village, Calif., right around the time that he sold his house in nearby Thousand Oaks to retired baseball star Lenny Dykstra for a reported $18.5 million.

In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report on Gretzky's purchase of the house at 1611 Wellington Place in Westlake Village. It's unclear what Gretzky's use will be for the new house, particularly given that he and his wife just unloaded their nearby estate in Thousand Oaks.

Built in 1968, Gretzky's 2,490-square-foot house has four bedrooms, three baths and a two-car garage -- all on a 0.15-acre lot, according to public records. The purchase closed on August 10, and was recorded on September 6, according to public records. Unfortunately, we have no photos or listing information for the house.

Back in September, the Los Angeles Times' Ruth Ryon wrote about Gretzky having sold his seven-bedroom estate on Lake Sherwood in Thousand Oaks (which has two addresses, depending upon which public-records database one consults: 1072 Newbern Court in Thousand Oaks or 2606 Newbern Court in Thousand Oaks). She reported that The Great One had sold the property so he could devote more time to making wine at his winery in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and she stated that Gretzky also is keeping a house in Arizona. Indeed, public records took some time to finally reveal the sale of the Thousand Oaks estate -- and they still don't show the exact amount that Dykstra paid Gretzky for his estate -- but we can now report definitively that Dykstra bought Gretzky's 6.69-acre compound in Thousand Oaks on August 29. The deal was recorded on August 31.

Features in Gretzky's former compound on Newbern Court in Thousand Oaks include a 10,800-square-foot main, neo-Georgian-style house that was built in 2002 (public records call the house 12,360 square feet, but that may include the square footage of ancillary buildings on the estate), two guesthouses, a carriage house, golf course and lake views, a pool, and a tennis court, Ryon reported.

Other properties that Gretzky owns are all over the country, including a 1.4-acre parcel at 10646 Olana Drive in Truckee, Calif. (in the Sierra Nevada Mountains) that he purchased in February 2007 for $731,254; a 1,470-square-foot condo in Pinellas County, Fla. that he purchased in 1998; a 3,758-square-foot town house at 2342 Heatherbank Court in Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and a 4.774-acre house on a 1.09-acre parcel at 6436 E. Gainsborough Road in Scottsdale, Ariz., which he purchased in late 2003 for $1,737,454, according to public records.
