Former NFL quarterback Cade McNown has paid $2,925,000 to purchase a house in Los Angeles’ Hancock Park and has sold his house in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills for $3,499,000.


In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report that McNown, 30, recently did that buying and selling. A Portland native and a standout at UCLA, McNown ended his generally unimpressive NFL career in 2003 after calling plays for the Chicago Bears, the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers.



In Hancock Park, McNown bought a gated, 3,916-square-foot Mediterranean-style house in Hancock Park that had been listed for $3,195,000 and that later was reduced to $2,995,000, according to listing information. Features in the four-bedroom house, which is at 200 S. Lorraine Boulevard in the Windsor Square area of Hancock Park, include four and a half baths, a guest house with a soaring ceiling and a rooftop deck, a pool, a spa, a wisteria-covered pergola, an outdoor professional barbecue area with a granite counter and a sink, and a Zen garden, according to listing information. Other features include in McNown’s new house, which was built in 1923, include a new gourmet kitchen, a large family room, a den, a master suite with a fireplace, an office and a walk-in closet, according to listing information. The house is on close to a quarter-acre lot, according to public records.

McNown had purchased his former Hollywood Hills house, at 7933 Fareholm Drive, in early 2004 for $1,275,000, according to public records. Given the $3,499,000 price that public records show that it sold for, we assume that McNown did significant work to the house, which public records state measures just 1,489 square feet, with one bedroom and two baths. More than likely, McNown gutted the house fairly significantly. Unfortunately, we were unable to find online listing information on the house, which was built in 1961, according to public records.

McNown has been an avid buyer and seller of real estate in other parts of the country as well over the years. In 1999, he paid $575,000 for a house at 422 Woodward Court in Lake Forest, Ill., a Chicago suburb, and sold that house in 2003 for $720,000, according to public records. In 2000, McNown paid $435,000 for a 36th-floor unit in the Bristol condominium building at 57 E. Delaware in downtown Chicago, and then turned around and sold that condo unit the following year for $485,000, according to public records. In 1999, he paid $392,000 for a place at 2070 Wellington Drive in West Linn, Ore., which he then sold in late 2002 for $440,500, according to public records. In late 2003, he sold a 14th-floor unit in a condominium building at 100 S. Birch Road in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. for $899,000, according to public records (we couldn’t find record of when he had purchased the place). Finally, in late 2004, he and his mother, Vicki, sold a condominium unit at 22085 Chelan Loop in West Linn, Ore. for $284,900, according to public records.
