Designer Rachel Ashwell, who created the "Shabby Chic" style, has placed her four-bedroom, 3,119-square-foot house in Los Angeles' Brentwood area on the market for $4,395,000.

 

This is yet another of the many "catch-up" items that we've been writing about as we continue digging out from the avalanche of backlogged items that surfaced during the unanticipated hacker attack last month that knocked us out of commission for awhile. The Los Angeles Times' Ann Brenoff broke the story on September 12 of Ashwell's listing, which came on the market on September 11.

Records show that Ashwell, 48, paid $3,170,000 on July 28, 2004 to buy the house in Brentwood, with the deal being recorded on August 17, 2004. Built in 1948, the house that Ashwell is selling -- which is known as "Casa Westgate" -- has three baths, a bright and open floor plan, an extra-large family room, hardwood floors, wood-beamed ceilings, custom tilework, and a gourmet kitchen, according to public records and listing information. Outside are a brick patio, a paddle tennis court and a pool and a spa, according to listing information. The house sits on two lots, producing a nearly half-acre, flag-shaped lot: 1) a 0.35-acre (15,420-square-foot), flag-shaped lot; and 2) a vacant, 6,273-square-foot, trapezoidal landlocked tract, according to public records.

Ashwell has owned lots of other L.A.-area homes over the years. Where else does Ashwell own houses at present, however? Public records show that she owns two other homes in Los Angeles County:

--A 3,276-square-foot house in Brentwood that she quietly purchased in July 2007 for $4,150,000, according to public records (and no, no other celebrity real-estate writer has mentioned Ashwell's ownership of this house);

--A 1,783-square-foot house in the Malibu Colony area of Malibu, Calif. that she purchased in February 2003 for $1,950,000, according to public records. Our friends over at the Real Estalker wrote a nice post on this house last year, when Ashwell had placed the home up for rental. While Brenoff wrote last month that the Malibu home is Ashwell's main residence (based on what she saw in public records), we actually believe instead that Ashwell's principal residence actually is the 3,276-square-foot Brentwood house just above. (We also should note that Ashwell previously had owned another house in the Malibu Colony, just down the street from her current home in the Colony.)
