Country music artist Kenny Chesney has unloaded his 3,723-square-foot house and compound in Malibu, Calif. for $8,500,000 after it had been listed last year for $7,950,000.
In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report on Chesney's sale of his property at 22355 Carbon Mesa Road in Malibu, which closed on Nov. 17 but wasn't recorded with Los Angeles County until April 3. He clearly got a great price for the house, which is just two doors south of David Duchovny and Tea Leoni's onetime home.
Back in April 2008, we exclusively had written about Chesney listing the estate for $7,950,000, just two days after we wrote about him having purchased it for $7,400,000 in February 2008.
Features on the 0.53-acre Malibu property includes a “voluminous” main house (public records show the house measures 3,723 square feet) that was built in 1992, two detached guest houses, a large flat grassy yard, beautiful fruit trees and gardens, a tiled pool, a farmhouse kitchen, an outdoor Italian oven and barbecue, a large temperature-controlled wine cellar and panoramic views of Santa Monica Bay, Catalina Island and Malibu Point, according to public records and listing information. Other neighborhood perks include La Costa Beach rights and a tennis membership, according to listing information. It’s unclear how many bedrooms are in the main house; public records report that it has only two. And the current listing reports that the property has five bedrooms; we’re not sure whether that includes all bedrooms in the guest houses or just the ones in the main house.
Chesney has purchased (and in some cases, sold -- and in other cases, we're just not sure) a variety of other properties over the years. These include:
--He continues -- we think -- to own a 7,242-square-foot house on a 48.77-acre estate on Peytonsville Road in Franklin, Tenn., which he purchased through his Grigsby Farms Trust in September 2003 for $2,500,000, according to public records.
--Chesney also was rumored to have purchased two houses on River Road Pike in Nashville last summer through his trust, paying $4,625,000 for one and then forking over $675,000 for the other, according to public records; the two houses were purchased through separate trusts, both of which have the name of Chesney's money manager on them.
--Chesney is continuing to try to sell his 6,888-square-foot mansion at 425 Caroline Street in Key West, Fla., which he purchased in January 2009 for $5,700,000 through his Falcon 200 Inc. company (ostensibly named after his plane), according to public records. He then put the house right back on the market for $6,495,000 just days later, without ever moving into it, and issued a weird statement through his record label: "It's funny how you can be moving out before you even move in. I may have been naive to think I could just go down to the Keys and disappear, because that was the idea. I wanted to find a place where I could just be and thought I'd found it. But with all the buzz since we signed the papers, the last thing I want to do to some place I love as much as Key West is change the dynamics, especially for the locals who have been so good to me, so I'm stopping the insanity before it begins. The 'for sale' sign is back up, and I'm just not going to be able to take possession of the house." As best as we can tell, Chesney's never-occupied house in Key West remains on the market.
