Comedian John Cleese has paid $1,400,000 to buy a two-bedroom co-op apartment in the building at 196 East 75th Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Kudos to the New York Observer for breaking the story yesterday of Cleese’s purchase on the Upper East Side. Clearly, much has been afoot lately in Cleese’s real-estate life, what with him listing his 15.47-acre Stalloreggi equestrian ranch in Santa Barbara, Calif. for $28 million, as we reported on Sunday.

On the Upper East Side, Cleese’s new 16th-floor unit had been listed for $1,450,000. The four and a half room apartment has two baths, a dining alcove, open city views, crown moldings, custom closets, new windows and east and west exposures, according to listing information. Check out the listing sheet for Cleese’s unit here.
