Singer-songwriter and actress Cher has paid $1,400,000 to purchase a two-bedroom, 1,455-square-foot house in West Hollywood, Calif.
In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report on the purchase of the small, traditional-style house by Cher. Sorry for not posting anything yesterday; we were busy with other writing tasks this week. Hopefully, the voluminous amount of material we've uploaded today (especially given that it's a Saturday!) will make up for that.
Built in 1937, Cher's new, two-story house sits behind gates on a minuscule, 0.09-acre (3,985-square-foot) lot, according to public records. Features in the house include one and a half baths, a gallery entrance with hardwood floors, a living room with vaulted ceilings, and a chef's kitchen, according to public records.
The house had been on the market for $1,599,000. Records show that Cher's trust purchased the house on August 12, with the deal being recorded on August 28.
What was Cher's purpose in buying this house? It's a little unclear. However, we know that Cher, 62, helped her lesbian activist daughter Chastity buy a different house in West Hollywood back in 2003 for $1,700,000 (actually a duplex, with one portion measuring 1,470 square feet and the other totaling 746 square feet). Cher and Chastity, who together made that 2003 purchase using both of their separate trusts, continue to own that duplex. And it's easy to assume that Cher's recent purchase somehow relates to Chastity, a longtime denizen of West Hollywood who is Cher's only daughter.
Obviously, Cher herself has made news most in the celebrity real estate world for having listed her 13,126-square-foot mansion at 25142 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu over the summer for a whopping $45,000,000, as we noted in early August. Cher also owns a 2,302-square-foot, duplex unit (two 1,151-square-foot units) on the 26th and 27th floors of the Sierra Towers partyrise in West Hollywood, which she purchased from director Vincent Gallo in early 2006 for exactly $3,000,000, according to public records. Everyone and their brother (including us) reported at the time that the duplex, which is the only two-story unit in Sierra Towers, sold for $4,500,000, but public records show that Cher's purchase actually was for $3,000,000.
One last point: some websites out there that list dated addresses for celebrities show Chastity Bono living at 8968 Vista Grande Street in West Hollywood. Please disregard that. Chastity sold that 1,104-square-foot house in late 2005 for $829,000, according to public records, after it had been on the market for $915,000. Take a look at the Los Angeles Times' Ruth Ryon's column on Chastity's listing of that house from October 2005.
