Actor Sean Penn and his actress wife, Robin Wright Penn, have placed their house and 2.21-acre property in Ross, Calif., north of San Francisco, on the market for $15,000,000. The Wall Street Journal clearly was spoon-fed an exclusive that ran on August 8 about Penn's listing of the house, which is at 7 Laurel Grove Avenue in Ross. As the Journal correctly noted, the Penns, who in April called off a pending divorce action, paid $2,100,000 for the house in August 1996 (August 15, 1996, to be exact -- 12 years ago yesterday). The house was built in 1933, according to public records. The house's size is up for debate; the Journal says it measures 10,000 square feet, while Marin County records actually say the house contains 7,557 square feet. What are the features in the home? The only way to find out (and this is how you know that the Journal was handed this exclusive by the listing agent) is to go to the Journal article itself, since there's no available online listing information. The website for the listing agent (as identified by the Journal) has only two listings on it, neither of which are the Penns' house. And the good people at the Marin Independent Journal this past week wrote a piece on the listing in which they briefly spoke with said listing agent, who told them that he refused to talk about the Penns, "other than to refer reporters to a Wall Street Journal article." As such, the house photos you see here are pics that were only available on the Journal's website. Features in the Spanish-style house include a double-height entry foyer, hand-hewn wood beamed ceilings, a stone fireplace and a kitchen with limestone countertops, a butcher-block island and a painted tile floor, the Journal reported. Other features include a home gym with an attached sauna, steam room and shower, according to the Journal. Outdoor features on the property include a guest house, a pool, a tennis court and a rock well, according to the Journal. We'll keep you posted as we hear more on this listing, although we suspect that the Journal will be the place where all news on this gets broken first. Stay tuned. Records also show that Penn has owned a 5,072-square-foot house on a 14.05-acre tract (now subdivided into at least four parcels) at 22271 Carbon Mesa Road in Malibu, Calif. Penn has owned that property since at least the 1990s, and some portions since 1989.
