Actor Roy Scheider is under contract to sell his longtime house on the Hamptons, which has been listed for $18,750,000, the New York Post is reporting.
The Post’s Braden Keil reported today that Scheider, 74, has a buyer for the five-bedroom beachfront house. Features in the traditional-style house, which technically is in Sagaponack, include five full baths, one half bath, four fireplaces, a two-car garage, a library, multiple heating zones, abundant porches and decks, 360-degree views, two outdoor showers and a variance for a pool, according to listing information. The listing sheet says the house sits on one acre, but public records actually show that the house sits on a 1.44-acre parcel. The house first was listed by Scheider in April 2006 for $20 million. He put the house on the market after fears about the surf from Atlantic storms threatening his beachfront mansion.
“We watched our lawn drop into the water,” Scheider told the New York Post in October 2005, a week after a particularly fierce “nor’easter” storm resulted in heavy tides. “My house will fall into the water if we don’t do something. It’s only a matter of time. I need something to stop the ocean.”
