Low-profile real estate financier William J. Chadwick has placed his six-bedroom mansion on Carbon Beach in Malibu, Calif. on the market for $65,000,000. Credit the Los Angeles Times' Ann Brenoff with breaking the story today on her 'Hot Property' blog of Chadwick's listing of his house at 21804 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, which has 150 feet of beachfront on the Pacific Ocean. Indeed, the listing of the estate just hit the multiple listing service on Tuesday. Built in 2005, Chadwick's house measures 9,508 square feet, according to public records (or 10,500 square feet, according to listing information). Chadwick purchased the land on which the house was built from Pepperdine University in April 2002 for exactly $2,000,000, according to public records. In fact, a former tenant of a previous home on the property, according to public records, was Pepperdine University law professor Doug Kmiec, a conservative who recently has been branded an apostate by other conservatives for backing U.S. Sen. Barack Obama for president. Features in Chadwick's mansion include nine baths, a paneled office, a master suite with his and hers baths, a gym, a family room, a pub, a pool, a spa, and a home theater that seats 16, according to listing information and the Times. Other features include a wine cellar and a full wall-size aquarium, the Times reported. The house sits on a 0.54-acre (23,514-square-foot) lot, according to public records.
