If real estate is all about location then Old Town is in a very good spot. Old Town rests next to the Lincoln Park, and Gold Coast neighborhoods. There are Brown and Purple line L stops at 1536 n Sedgwick. The red line at Clark and Division is not far away.
Old town is an affluent and historic neighborhood with a rich past. The area has seen many changes over the years including being an art colony in the 1930s, an enclave to first Puerto Ricans in 1950s, gay and lesbian center in 1950s to 1980s, and hippie/bohemian center in 60s-70s. The neighborhood gentrified in the 2000s.
One will run into century old greystones and brownstones as well as several high rise condo buildings. The west edge of Old Town does have some new construction homes.
There is a thriving business centered around Wells street. This includes the famed Second City Comedy Troupe and Training Center which produced the likes of Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Tim Meadows, Bonnie Hunt, Stephen Colbert, Halle Berry, Sean Hayes, Amy Sedaris, Jon Favreau, Hinton Battle, Jack McBrayer, Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald. Classes are open to the public and taught by working professionals, many of whom are current and former Second City performers.
