Just north of Downtown and just south of Lincoln Park the area has some the cities finest and most expensive housing. The exact boundaries of Old Town are debatable; the neighborhood is roughly the area between North Avenue, LaSalle, Division and Halsted. Old Town is one of Chicago’s most historic neighborhoods and is know for its distinctive architectural character.
The area has many charming
cottages, rowhouses and townhouses of both
brick and frame construction on tree-lined
streets. Many of the structures as well
as the streets predate the Chicago Fire
and do not follow the Chicago grid system.
The area was one of the first in the city
to experience gentrification, almost 40
years ago. Old Town is surrounded by some
of the cities finest restaurants, theaters,
boutiques and clubs. Only a few blocks to
the lake old town residents have easy access
to Lake Shore Drive. As well as CTA access,
both the Red and Brown Lines run through
the area. Search
