The neighborhood commonly known as Bucktown
is located north of North Avenue, south
of Fullerton, west of Ashland and east of
Western.
In the 1970 the area reached a low point,
however in the 80’s community development
groups created affordable housing in the
area. This brought in many artists who were
attracted by the areas cheap studio space.
Following the artists was intriguing mix
of nightclubs, cafés, boutiques, theaters,
coffeehouses, cutting-edge galleries and
small businesses. The area has a thriving
night live and is increasingly known for
its high-end Real Estate Development. What
used to be an affordable artist hangout
has experienced many years of gentrification;
the area is now filled with converted lofts,
new condos, brownstones, two- and three-
flats, and and mini-mansions. Many of the
artists have moved away to areas like Pilsen
but every year there is a well known arts
fair called Around
the Coyote. The CTA Blue Line runs
down Milwaukee Ave. and stops in the heart
of Bucktown at North Ave. There is a second
stop at Western and North Avenue. The 90/94
Kennedy Expressway is only a few blocks
away on the East end of the neighborhood.
