Oak Park is an ideal community.
The village is rich in culture and diversity.
Here you can find one of the largest collections
of buildings designed by the famous architect
Frank Lloyd Wright. Oak Park boasts 40 galleries,
a brand new public library(2004), and many
fine restaurants. The Oak Park Area Arts
Council is very active and events happen
on an almost daily basis.
Oak Park has shady tree lined streets. Most
of the homes were built in the 1920's to
1940's and this community strives to retain
the historical character of the neighborhood.
You won’t find the typical problems
of suburban sprawl and big box strip malls
here as development is fairly controlled
for the good of the community. It's semi-urban
feel and attracts many city dwellers looking
to get away yet to the congestion and yet
stay close to Chicago. The Utne Reader (Jan/Feb
2002) designated Oak Park as one of America's
60 best public places. They characterize
it as "Everything you'd want in a suburb:
racially integrated, walkable, prosperous,
a vital downtown, good transit, and a character
all its own."
