Which celebrity's house is this? House #34: the approximately 6,100-square-foot house at 36 Hedges Lane in Amagansett, N.Y., which sold in August 2007 for $4.3M to a (celebrity?) trust that also owns a house in Los Angeles' Brentwood area
Today’s installment of “Which celebrity’s house is this?” involves what we believe is a celebrity landowner with real-estate holdings on both coasts — in Amagansett, N.Y., where he or she paid $4,300,000 in August 2007 for an 11-room, 6,100-square-foot house and 0.67-acre lot, and a house in Los Angeles’ Brentwood area. We’ve been waiting for a rainy day to throw this item up before our readers for their always-useful input. And, seeing as how it has indeed been raining here in Chicago this Mother’s Day, there’s no better time than the present. Public records show that back in August 2007, something called the New Trust paid $4,300,000 to purchase this six-bedroom house and 0.67-acre lot at 36 Hedges Lane in Amagansett, N.Y., just a block east of the celebrated Further Lane, where Jerry Seinfeld and many others live. The Hedges Lane property, which is about two blocks from the Atlantic Ocean, was considered by the local assessor to have been vacant during the 2005 tax year, so we assume that this house is recently built. The reason we believe that the buyer of the Hedges Lane property is a celebrity is because the money manager whose name appears on the deed is Howard Altman. Astute readers of this blog will recall that the Los Angeles-based Altman has been the trustee for many celebrities in their home purchases over the years, including luminaries like Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, Dan Castellaneta and Simon Baker, while Altman’s firm has represented many other celebrity homeowners as well, including David Spade, Cher, Linda Gray, Chris Meloni, Kurt Rambis, Pia Zadora, Lisa Loeb, Ethan Hawke and Paul Bettany/Jennifer Connelly. In addition, records show that the same, Altman-represented New Trust also owns property in a celebrity-friendly area of Los Angeles as well. In June 2004, the New Trust paid $4,205,000 to purchase actress Sally Field’s longtime, gated 4,410-square-foot house on a 0.35-acre lot at 12307 7th Helena Drive in Los Angeles’ Brentwood area (Field moved to the mountains above Malibu). On top of all of that, records show that the same, Altman-repped New Trust paid $2,195,000 in March 2004 to purchase a 2,815-square-foot, fifth-floor condo unit at 38 Warren Street in Manhattan’s TriBeCa area, only to turn around and sell the loft-style unit in June 2004 for $2,250,000. So, dear readers, can anyone say who is behind the New Trust and therefore, who the buyer is of the house in Amagansett, and the owner of the house in Brentwood?
