Olsen twins’ girlhood home in Los Angeles’ Encino area is on the market for $2.795M

The five-bedroom, 5,846-square-foot house in Los Angeles’ Encino area where Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen spent a good amount of their youth is on the market for $2,795,000.

In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report on the listing of the Mediterranean-style ‘former celeb compound,’ as it’s billed, at 5427 Encino Avenue in Encino’s Amestoy Estates area. Records show that the twins’ father, David Olsen, owned the house from April 1997, when the girls were 10, until selling it in 2005. David Olsen and his second wife, McKenzie Olsen, paid $1,200,000 to purchase the house in 1997, according to public records. He sold it in 2005 for $1,699,000, according to public records.

Built in 1990, the Olsens’ former house in Encino has seven baths, tall wrought iron doors, a grand hall with a spiral staircase, arched windows, four fireplaces, high ceilings, a grand living room, a music room, a breakfast room, and a kitchen with twin Sub-Zero refrigerators and an island, according to public records and listing information. Other features include a master suite with a sitting area, a fireplace and a Grecian balcony, according to listing information. Outdoor features on the 0.56-acre (24,407-square-foot) property include a resort-like pool, a cascading spa, and a grassy back yard, according to public records and listing information.

The house came on the market on Jul. 31. We’re told that a buyer currently has an offer in on the house, although we have no idea if it will be accepted.

This is not David Olsens home. It is the home of Mary-Kate and Ashley’s mother Jarnette. Please get your facts right befor posting!!

Greetings Lauren

Thanks for reading Big Time Listings, and thanks for your post. A deed shows plainly that David Olsen purchased the above property, 5427 Encino, in 1997 with his second wife, McKenzie. Another deed shows that David and McKenzie Olsen *sold* this property in 2005. Jarnette’s name does not appear anywhere on the deed. Perhaps she lived there after their divorce (although we can’t imagine why), but it’s pretty clear that the property was *owned* by David Olsen from 1997 until 2005.

I’m struggling to keep the home I’ve rented while raising my 3 kids alone. We have a dirt backyard and my rent is $900 a month but with a deadbeat dad it’s almost impossible to make ends meet right now. I’d give almost anything to be able just to stay here. Dreaming of houses like that and thinking about all the money they spend without batting an eyelash is incomprehensible to me. I worked for a utility company until I was hit by a drunk driver 6 years ago. I’m able to work now but the company I worked for would like me to resign. I’ve heard that organizations or people want to help? Where are they? I sat for hours in the welfare office to be told I don’t qualify for state assistance because I have a car. The worker said just sell it!? The state doesn’t want to prevent homelessness. I stood in line for hours at our church for $20 in food vouchers for my family of 4. I’m desperate and will do anything at this point to help my family. I’m not afraid of hard work but a woman over 40 doesn’t stand a chance these days. My girls are good girls and really good students. I cannot let my girls know my burden. I never thought I would wonder if I could feed my girls or pay rent and utilities? My parents passed many years ago. My girls never knew them. Their father isn’t involved in their lives at all even though our door has always been open to him. Hiding my shame and pain is getting more difficult. Any help please! G. Weber, Palmdale, CA

I am really sorry to hear about your troubles Gina. I was just wondering how old your kids are. If they are over the age of 16 they can certainly go out and find a job. If they aren’t maybe you can talk to your local church or even to the school that your kids go to about getting some help with food and clothing. I am in Illinois, but i know that in my state we have what is called liheap, its a program thru our utilities that helps with the bills, they can either pay the whole thing or break down the bill into affordable payments. You should call your utility companies and find out if they have something like that available. Hope it all works out for you.
