Model/heiress Lydia Hearst has become a first-time homebuyer, paying $1,490,000 for a two-bedroom condominium unit in the Sheffield57 Tower in Mid-Town Manhattan. We're still catching up on a few items dating back even as far as last week. The New York Observer's Max Abelson last Thursday broke the story of Hearst's purchase, which closed on December 4, 2007, exactly a year after she went to contract for the unit. The deal was recorded last Thursday. The "full sale price" for the 30th-floor unit (including "personal property" like cash, or other property and goods) was $1,517,192, according to public records. A condo conversion, Sheffield57 is a 50-story building located at 322 W. 57th Street in Mid-Town Manhattan. The tower was built in 1978. Born to the name Lydia Hearst-Shaw, the 23-year-old model/heiress -- and aspiring actress -- now prefers to go simply by Lydia Hearst. She told the Observer that she likes Mid-Town because it "sort of feels like the real Manhattan, at least the way Manhattan looks in the movies."
