Singer Lionel Richie has paid an undisclosed amount to buy a two-bedroom town home in Los Angeles' Century City area from actor Dennis Franz that had been listed for $1,395,000, and he reportedly bought it as a surprise for his daughter Nicole and her rocker boyfriend/reported fiance, Joel Madden, who are expecting their first child. The Aug. 27 National Enquirer (on newsstands now!) broke the news of Lionel's purchase of the town home at 2300 Century Hl in Century City. Public records show that Nicole's father closed on the purchase on June 27, with the deal being recorded on July 24 (disregard the Enquirer's erroneous reporting that Richie had bought the unit on July 28; public records show that that's just not true). The Enquirer called the property a '$2 million town house,' but given the fact that it had been listed for $1,395,000, we're fairly confident that whatever the final sale price winds up being, it wasn't anywhere near $2,000,000. Built in 1980, the town home was purchased by Franz in 2003 for $715,000, according to public records. He listed the town home in March for $1,395,000. We wrote about the listing at that time, following the lead of the Los Angeles Times' Ruth Ryon, who broke the story on March 18. Features in the 2,274-square-foot town home include two and a half baths, a master bedroom suite with a sitting area and a walk-in closet, a living room with a fireplace, a three-car garage, and a formal dining room, according to listing information. Check out an online listing sheet for the town home. Although the exact purchase price of Franz's town home is not yet available in public records, we'll let you know what it is when it becomes available. Where has Nicole lived up to now? Published accounts confirm what public information long has shown--that Nicole has owned a 2,246-square-foot, 10th-floor unit in the Empire West building at 1100 N. Alta Loma Road in West Hollywood, Calif. She purchased the two-bedroom, three bath unit in early 2005 through her CNR Trust for $1,180,000, according to public records. Another owner in Empire West is actress Dyan Cannon, who in 2003 paid $810,000 for the unit that is exactly two floors below Nicole's, according to public records.
