House in Los Angeles’ Whitley Heights area that Carole Lombard and William Powell once owned sells for $1.345M

A Spanish villa-style house in Los Angeles’ Whitley Heights neighborhood that old-time Hollywood actress Carole Lombard and her onetime husband, actor William Powell, once had owned in the early 1930s has sold for $1,345,000.

In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we wanted to finally write about this sale, which occurred a few months ago. And, we saw this as a great opportunity to start blogging again after a short and unannounced hiatus for some family reasons (nothing bad; we promise!). But, it’s nice to be back in the saddle!

Built in 1926, the four-bedroom, 3,238-square-foot house, at 6861 Iris Circle, has three and three-quarter baths, original ironwork, a vaulted ceiling foyer with a romantic grand staircase, a circular layout, large common areas, a custom kitchen, custom baths, and a den with built-in entertainment, according to public records and listing information. Outdoor features on the 0.08-acre (3,698-square-foot) lot include a private garden courtyard with a spa/fountain and views of the Hollywood Hills and the Hollywood sign, according to public records and listing information.

The house had been listed for $1,395,000. The seller — also not a celebrity — had purchased the house in 2006 for $1,300,000, according to public records.

The buyer is a studio executive who is not a celebrity, according to public records. The Los Angeles Times’ Lauren Beale had written about the listing — not the sale, mind you, but the listing — back in June.

The house is right next door to the house at 6867 Iris Circle in Whitley Heights that actress Busy Phillips sold early this year for $1,075,000, as we exclusively had reported. We still believe that the buyer of that house (the whimsically named “In God We Trust”) is a celebrity. If anyone knows who bought that house, go ahead and drop a dime on them and send a note our way. We promise we won’t reveal you as the source!
