A Beverly Hills, Calif. house that actresses Rita Hayworth and Jean Harlow once lived in has sold for $3,960,000.
In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report on the sale on May 10 (but not recorded until July 10) of the five-bedroom, Spanish Colonial-style house at 512 N. Palm Drive in Beverly Hills. The buyers are a couple from nearby Santa Monica who are not celebrities.
We first wrote about the house on February 6, when it was on the market for $4,299,000.
Built in 1928, the 4,426-square-foot house, which is located on a 0.27-acre parcel, was the residence that Harlow was renting at the time of her death in 1937, and it was owned by Hayworth during the 1950s.
Features in the house include five and a half baths, vintage ironwork, stained glass, a Juliet balcony, a grand living room with beamed ceilings, a spacious family room with an original bar from the Golden Age of Hollywood, a large deck, a pool, a spa, a two-story guesthouse, a formal dining room and a gourmet kitchen, according to listing information.
The immediate area is steeped in Hollywood history, given that just two doors down is the house at 508 N. Palm Drive, where Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio lived during their marriage. Over a 70-year timeframe, the house's appearance has changed, as this link reveals.
Our post on the house on February 6 appeared just two days after the Los Angeles Times' Ruth Ryon first broke the story of the house being listed.
