Opera and jazz soprano Renee Fleming has paid $4,262,700 for a 3,000-square-foot penthouse condominium unit on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, according to public records and the New York Observer.
Fleming, 48, purchased the eight and a half room unit in the co-op building at 200 W. 86th Street, which had been listed for $4,395,000 and which technically had counted as two separate units that will be combined. Features in the four-bedroom unit include three and a half baths, 1,200 square feet of wraparound terraces with skyline views, two wood-burning fireplaces, four exposures, intact prewar details, central air, French doors leading to outdoor terraces, an oversized master bath with atrium windows, a steam shower and a separate soaking tub, and a custom sound system, according to listing information. Check out a cached version of the unit’s listing sheet here. The 21-story building at 200 W. 86th Street is a co-op building that was buit in 1929 and was converted into a co-op building in 1985.
On Wednesday, the Observer noted that the unit was purchased from the president of Washington Mutual’s retail banking franchise.
Fleming has lived in various places on the Upper West Side, both with and without her actor ex-husband Richard Lee Ross, whom she divorced in 2001. Most recently, she has owned in the co-op building at 20 W. 77th Street, according to public records. Previously, Fleming and Ross had owned a house at 163 Turn of River Road in Stamford, Conn. that they had purchased in 1996 for $575,000 and that she alone sold in 2003 for $1,295,000, according to public records.
