Director Joel Schumacher has paid $1,360,000 for a one-bedroom condominium unit on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan's Greenwich Village.  The New York Observer's 'Manhattan Transfers' column late yesterday broke the story of Schumacher's purchase. Indeed, public records show that Schumacher went to contract to buy the unit on July 22, with the deal closing on August 26. The transaction was recorded on Monday morning. Records show that the sale closed for $1,384,820 as the 'full sale price' (including all personal property). As the Observer correctly noted, Schumacher's new unit measures 790 square feet and has a 19-foot-long bedroom and a 19-foot-long living room, both with views of Fifth Avenue, according to listing information. The Observer didn’t mention this, but public records show that Schumacher continues to own his longtime (since the early ’90s) home in Los Angeles’ Bel-Air area — a four-bedroom, 4,848-square-foot house on a 1.61-acre parcel that was built in 1979, according to public records. Schumacher’s L.A. home is just across the street from a 5,485-square-foot house that was owned by actress Reese Witherspoon until she sold it in 2004 for $4,537,500, according to public records.
