A 4,315-square-foot, contemporary Mediterranean-style house in the Bird Streets area of Los Angeles' Hollywood Hills that actress Halle Berry once owned has sold for $2,800,000.
In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report on the sale of the three-bedroom house at 1368 Doheny Place. The sellers, who purchased the house in late 2005/early 2006 from Berry's trust (known as the Little Trust), took a serious bath on the house, given that they had paid Halle $4,150,000 for it. The deal was recorded on Feb. 17.
The sellers clearly had to readjust their sale expectations, given the state of the market. As we exclusively reported in October 2008, they had listed the house at that time for a whopping $4,995,000.
Built in 1989, the house has three and a half baths, an open and airy floor plan, soaring ceilings, limestone floors, walls of windows and a master suite with a sitting area, a fireplace, a terrace, a walk-in closet and a spa-like bath, according to public records and listing information. Other features include French doors opening to a covered patio and a junior master suite with a fireplace and a limestone bath, according to listing information. Outside on the house’s 0.33-acre (14,349-square-foot) lot are a pool and a spa, according to public records and listing information.
The genealogy of the house used to be something of a mess in public records and in online address lists. As we noted in October 2008, records show that in March 1994, Berry and her then-husband, major-league baseball player David Justice, paid $1,585,000 to purchase the house. The couple split in 1996, and Berry clearly kept the house in the divorce. In late 2005/early 2006 (the difference in dates relates to the sale closing vs. when it was recorded), Berry sold the house for $4,150,000 the people who just sold it. Halle fetched $4,150,000 after having listed the house for $4.5 million.
Berry sold the house at 1368 Doheny Place because, as we have noted in the past, she paid $5,995,000 in mid-2005 to purchase a different house, about four-tenths of a mile down the street, from actor Frankie Muniz, according to public records. Despite what is written elsewhere, Muniz never actually owned this house.
