Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman and his longtime girlfriend and baby(ies) momma, Mimi O’Donnell, reportedly have gone to contract to buy a three-bedroom co-op loft unit in Manhattan’s West Village area that had been listed for $4,400,000.The New York Post’s fine celebrity real estate columnistBraden Keil broke the newsof the purchase in today’s “Page Six” column, and our friends over at the Real Estalker shortly thereafter followed up with theircustomarily through take. From our reading of the city’s public records, the purchase deed has *not* yet been recorded (as a result, we don’t have a purchase price), but the standard initial cooperative filing *has* been recorded with the city (that took place yesterday). We’d expect the purchase price to be filed with the city anytime (either later today, or sometime next week).Indeed, the fifth-floor unit that Hoffman is buying, at 68 Jane Street in the West Village, is in a prewar building (actually built in 1900) and has two and a half baths, high ceilings, doors from Provence, a wood-burning fireplace and wood floors, according to listing information. The online listing information also boldly (and improbably) states that the living room “is one of the largest single spaces in the West Village.” Keil noted that Hoffman had hunted for units in the Village for more than two years before settling on the place on Jane Street. This isn’t Hoffman’s first real-estate purchase in Gotham. Unremarked in today’s other news accounts of Hoffman’s purchase is the fact that in August 2002, Hoffman paid a reported $1,400,000 for a penthouse condo at 1 Sheridan Square in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, according to public records and news accounts at the time. The two-bedroom unit, which Hoffman still owns, measures either 800 square feet (according to public records) or 1,200 square feet (according to a February 10, 2003 article in the New York Observer) and has 12-foot ceilings and French doors leading out onto a terrace, the paper reported at the time.
