"Harry Potter" actor Daniel Radcliffe has paid $4,289,700 for a condominium unit in lower Manhattan, and has immediately put it up for rental for $20,000 a month.
The New York Times' Josh Barbanel on Sunday broke the story of Radcliffe's purchase of the unit in the building at 40 Mercer Street in Manhattan. Radcliffe, 18, purchased the unit through his Gilmore Jacobs Ltd. Company, and went to contract to buy the unit on November 1. The deal closed on November 21, and was recorded on December 5, according to public records.
Radcliffe's new unit is in a 13-story building that opened last winter. The Times and listing information report that the fifth-floor unit has two bedrooms, two and a half baths and a total of 1,843 square feet of space. It's unclear whether Radcliffe intends to eventually inhabit the unit once his "Equus" play opens on Broadway in late 2008.
