Actor Chris O’Donnell sells his 5,191-square-foot house in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades area for an undisclosed amount after it had been on the market for $5.395M

Actor Chris O’Donnell has sold his 5,191-square-foot, Colonial-style house in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighborhood for an undisclosed amount after it had been on the market for $5,395,000.

In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report on O’Donnell’s sale of his two-story house, which was at 408 Ocampo Drive in Pacific Palisades. Indeed, records show that O’Donnell’s California Nest Trust closed on the sale of the house on May 16, with the deal being recorded on May 30. The buyers, a married couple, are not celebrities (the husband appears to be an investment banker). The purchase price has not yet cleared public records, but when it does, we’ll of course provide it here.

Built in 2000, the six bedroom house has six baths and a pool and sits on a 0.19-acre parcel, according to public records.

Our friends over at the Real Estalker broke the story back in March of O’Donnell listing the house, which he has owned since buying it new for $2,950,000 in 2000.

It’s not clear yet where O’Donnell has moved. When we find out, we’ll of course report it here.

From 1995 until 2002, O’Donnell, a native of Winnetka, Ill., also owned a three-bedroom, end unit town home at 1147 W. George Street in Chicago. He purchased the seven-room town house in 1995 for $367,000 but sold it in 2002 for $650,000 after he realized he wasn’t using it much. In our role as a celebrity real estate columnist for the Chicago Tribune, we broke the story of the sale of that town home.

Hal @ 3:33 am

Are all these sales “for undisclosed amounts” indicative of a dropping market where the sellers are embarrassed to reveal how much of a haircut they have taken?

Thanks for reading Big Time Listings! No, these sales for “undisclosed amounts” are indicative of the fact that LA County permits buyers and sellers to keep the amount of a transaction off the deed itself (it actually ends up on the back of the deed, which doesn’t get picked up by public-records databases). More and more buyers and sellers are doing this. The purchase amount still becomes available eventually, but in the short run, they can keep it secret. That’s why the only way for the Los Angeles Times’ Ann Brenoff to often get transaction amounts for just-closed transactions is by pulling those amounts from the LA MLS (Realtors usually still put the sale price in the MLS).
